Police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office are also investigating the death of a woman pulled from Lake Michigan near Navy Pier on Saturday evening. It remains unclear if the case is linked to foul play.
Lowest Summer Weekend Toll Since 2018
While 26 shooting victims and three deaths are tragic, the numbers were significantly lower than recent years. The 2018 weekend saw identical figures, but in most years since, totals have far surpassed these levels — despite the city enduring sweltering heat this past weekend.
Call for Community Vigilance
Authorities have not confirmed motives or suspects in the shootings, and investigations are ongoing. Police continue to urge the public to report any tips regarding the incidents.
