63-Year-Old Man Dies After Being Struck By Stray Gunfire Inside North Lawndale Home

CHICAGO — A 63-year-old man was fatally struck by stray gunfire that pierced the walls of his North Lawndale home early Sunday morning, according to authorities.

The victim, identified as John Louden, was inside a home on the 1300 block of South Kolin Avenue when he was hit by a bullet that had been fired from outside the residence. The incident occurred around 4:09 a.m., police said.

Bullet Fired From Outside the Home

Authorities believe the gunfire originated from outside the property and unintentionally struck Louden inside. He suffered life-threatening injuries and was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was initially reported as critical.

Despite the medical team’s efforts, Louden later succumbed to his injuries, as confirmed by multiple sources including NBC Chicago and Chicago Sun-Times.

No Arrests Announced

As of Monday, no suspects had been taken into custody, and police have not released information about a potential motive. The case remains under investigation by Area Four detectives.

North Lawndale Residents Alarmed

Residents of the area say the incident highlights the growing concern over random gun violence affecting innocent lives inside their own homes. Local leaders are urging for more patrols and community-level interventions to curb stray shooting incidents.
