CHICAGO — An 8-year-old girl was wounded late Tuesday night in a road rage shooting on the South Side, prompting a police search for the suspect who fired into the family’s car and fled the scene.
Incident Unfolds on South State Street
According to Chicago Police, the shooting happened around 9:47 p.m. in the 3000 block of South State Street. The child was riding in a Nissan Rogue with her family when a confrontation broke out with the occupants of a white SUV nearby.
The verbal dispute escalated when a man inside the SUV threatened to shoot at the family’s vehicle. Moments later, two gunshots were fired, one of which struck the young girl in the left thigh.
Victim Transported to Comer Children’s Hospital
Emergency responders from the Chicago Fire Department arrived at the scene and treated the girl before transporting her to Comer Children’s Hospital, where she was listed in fair condition. Authorities recovered two shell casings at the scene.
Suspect Description Released
The gunman remains on the loose. He is described as a Black male, approximately 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-8 in height, with a medium build and wearing all black clothing at the time of the shooting. Police are continuing their investigation and urging the public to come forward with any tips.
