CHICAGO, IL — A violent confrontation between two groups in the Streeterville neighborhood early Tuesday morning left a 20-year-old man critically injured from a stabbing wound to the abdomen, according to Chicago Police.
The altercation unfolded around 1:35 a.m. in the 200 block of East Illinois Street, when two groups encountered each other on the street. According to police, an argument quickly escalated after a man from one group allegedly pulled out a sharp object and slashed a car belonging to a woman in the other group.
Violence Escalates Quickly
Police said that after damaging the vehicle, the same man stabbed a 20-year-old male from the opposing group in the lower abdomen, causing serious injuries. The victim managed to walk himself into Northwestern Memorial Hospital shortly after the attack. As of Tuesday morning, he was listed in critical condition.
The assailant fled the scene immediately after the incident. No arrests had been made at the time of reporting, and police have not yet released a description of the suspect.
Area Three detectives are currently handling the investigation.
