Courtney Vandersloot Suffers Torn ACL, Will Miss Rest Of Chicago Sky Season

CHICAGO — The Chicago Sky will finish the 2025 WNBA season without one of their most decorated players, as Courtney Vandersloot has been ruled out for the remainder of the year with a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).

Vandersloot sustained the injury during Saturday’s 79–52 loss to the Indiana Fever, exiting the game in the first quarter and not returning. An MRI conducted Sunday confirmed the ACL tear, and the Sky announced she will undergo surgery.

Vandersloot’s Season Ends Early After Promising Start

The 5-foot-8 guard was averaging 10.6 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game, helping guide a rebuilding Sky squad. She had returned to Chicago this season after two years with the New York Liberty, where she helped the team win the 2023 WNBA Championship.

Vandersloot was originally selected by the Sky as the third overall pick in the 2011 WNBA Draft and played a central role in Chicago’s 2021 championship run.

Devastating Blow For Sky’s Midseason Push

The injury is a massive setback for a team already battling for playoff position. Vandersloot brought both leadership and experience to the young Sky roster, and her absence now raises major questions about the team’s backcourt rotation heading into the second half of the season.

The Sky have not yet announced a timeline for surgery or whether a roster replacement will be signed.

Can the Sky recover from losing their star floor general? Who should step up in Vandersloot’s absence?
