CHICAGO — A concealed carry license holder opened fire on a robbery suspect Tuesday night in Humboldt Park, leaving the alleged offender in critical condition after an attempted hold-up on Artesian Avenue, police confirmed.
The incident happened at approximately 10:48 p.m. on June 10 in the 1400 block of N. Artesian Ave, near the West Side corridor just south of Wicker Park.
Police say a 36-year-old man was retrieving items from his vehicle when he was approached by a male suspect brandishing a firearm and demanding personal belongings.
Victim Shoots Back In Self-Defense
Instead of complying, the victim — who holds a valid concealed carry license (CCL) — drew his own weapon and fired multiple rounds at the offender.
The suspect sustained several gunshot wounds and was transported to Stroger Hospital, where he is listed in critical condition. No other injuries were reported in the confrontation.
Authorities confirmed that the victim remained at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement. No charges have been filed against the CCL holder.
Area Five Detectives Continue Investigation
The 14th District officers secured the area late Tuesday night, and Area Five detectives are now handling the ongoing investigation.
A report published via the Chicago Police portal indicates the offender may have been involved in other recent robberies in the area, though officials have not publicly confirmed any additional charges.
