Chicago Robbery Spree: Police Search for Armed Crew Behind Lakeview, Lincoln Park Attacks

CHICAGO — Armed Crew Targets Victims in Four Late-Night Robberies Across North Side

Chicago police are investigating a string of four armed robberies that took place late Monday night in Lakeview and Lincoln Park, with suspects reportedly ambushing victims and demanding phone passcodes.

The incidents occurred within a 30-minute window, according to a community alert issued by the CPD’s 19th District. Police said the robbery crew operated out of a stolen white Honda CR-V, using the same tactic in each case: jumping out, brandishing handguns, or using force, and taking phones, wallets, and other personal items.

Surveillance Video Shows First Holdup in Lincoln Park

Security footage obtained from a local liquor store in Lincoln Park shows the chilling moment one of the attacks began. According to Andy Patel, owner of Eastgate Wine and Spirits, a white SUV can be seen idling along North Pine Grove Avenue before two masked men jump out and chase a young woman across the street.

“The neighborhood is very concerned, because people have security concerns,” said Patel in an interview with NBC Chicago.

Four Attacks in 30 Minutes: Locations and Timeline

According to the alert, the crew struck four times between 11:42 PM and 12:05 AM across both neighborhoods. The following incidents were reported:

  • 2800 block of N. Pine Grove Ave (Lakeview) – June 9 at 11:42 PM

  • 700 block of W. Roscoe St (Lakeview) – June 9 at 11:51 PM

  • 3400 block of N. Broadway (Lakeview) – June 9 at 11:55 PM

  • 2500 block of N. Sheffield Ave (Lincoln Park) – June 10 at 12:05 AM

Victims in at least two of the incidents were forced to give up their cellphone passcodes, a tactic that makes stolen phones easier to resell or use fraudulently.

Victims Include College Student and Bar-Goer

Among the victims was a DePaul University student, who was attacked just one block from campus. Another victim was robbed near a local Lakeview bar, though authorities did not disclose specific details about injuries or the suspects’ identities.

Residents in both neighborhoods expressed concern over the boldness and speed of the robberies.

“I know the cops are out here trying to patrol the area, and it’s been down over time,” a passerby told reporters in Lakeview. “I hope it continues to get better. Be vigilant at night.”

Ongoing Summer Threats, But Robbery Trends Improving

This type of crime spree is not new to Chicago’s North Side, especially during the summer. Over the past few years, authorities have tracked similar robbery patterns involving small groups targeting residents during late-night hours.

Despite these recent incidents, year-to-date robbery totals in the 19th District are down 34%, police said.

Still, CPD urges residents to remain alert and report suspicious activity immediately. The department continues to investigate the spree and is reviewing additional surveillance footage to identify the suspects.
