MCHENRY — A 56-year-old man from Fox Lake is now in federal custody after allegedly robbing a Bank of America branch in Kildeer and being arrested later that same day in McHenry, law enforcement officials confirmed.
Alleged Robbery at Bank of America in Kildeer
The incident took place around 10:30 a.m. last Friday at the Bank of America located on Rand Road in Kildeer, Illinois. According to the FBI, the suspect — identified as Pedro Perales — handed a note to a bank teller suggesting he was armed. Authorities noted that no firearm was visibly displayed during the robbery.
Perales fled the scene in a newer model GMC Acadia with an undisclosed amount of cash. No injuries were reported.
Coordinated Arrest in McHenry
Later that evening, law enforcement agencies — including local police and the FBI — were able to track down Perales. He was apprehended without incident around 7:30 p.m. during a traffic stop near Route 31 and Alexandria Boulevard in McHenry City.
The operation was described as a successful example of multi-agency coordination. Kildeer Police Chief Steve Balinski praised the arrest as a result of “teamwork and technology,” which helped authorities close in on the suspect swiftly.
Federal Charges Pending
Perales was taken into federal custody, and the stolen money was reportedly recovered. At this time, details about the charges, the exact amount stolen, or the contents of the note handed to the teller have not been made public.
The investigation remains ongoing as federal authorities continue to process evidence and prepare formal charges.
Community Reaction and Response
Residents in both Kildeer and McHenry expressed relief that the arrest was carried out quickly and without violence. The FBI and local departments have reiterated their commitment to ensuring safety across suburban communities through rapid response and collaboration.
