Anna Secures $2.1M Grant for Multi-Use Path Along East Vienna Street

ILLINOIS — The city of Anna has secured over $2.1 million in funding for a new multi-use path along East Vienna Street, a major infrastructure project aimed at improving safety and accessibility for both residents and visitors.

$2.1M Awarded Through Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program

The total grant amount, $2,136,750, was awarded to Anna through the Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program (ITEP). The initiative, managed by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), is part of a statewide effort to improve non-motorized travel options.

“We’re pleased to receive this money from ITEP and excited to put these dollars to work in our community,” said City Administrator Dori Bigler in a public statement. “The multi-use path to Walmart will improve accessibility while increasing safety for residents and visitors alike.”

Project Route and Purpose

The planned path will start at the intersection of Springfield Avenue and East Vienna Street (Route 146), stretching eastward until it reaches Walmart, a popular destination in the city. The goal of the project is to support safer pedestrian and bike travel along this corridor, which sees frequent local traffic.

Part of a Larger Statewide Effort

Anna is one of 66 municipalities across Illinois receiving a share of over $139.2 million in total ITEP funding. The program emphasizes infrastructure upgrades like bike lanes, sidewalks, and pedestrian enhancements.

According to KFVS12, the awards stem from a mix of federal and state transportation dollars, aiming to promote healthier, safer, and more sustainable urban mobility.

What’s Next for Anna Residents?

With the funding now approved, planning and development for the East Vienna Street path are expected to begin soon. The city has not yet announced a project start date, but residents can expect updates from municipal officials as the process moves forward.
