Chicago Police Searching for Hit-and-Run Driver After Woman Killed in Pilsen Crosswalk

CHICAGO – Authorities are looking for the driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run that claimed the life of a young woman and seriously injured a man in the Pilsen neighborhood Saturday evening, according to the Chicago Police Department.

The incident occurred near South Ashland Avenue and West Cullerton Street, where a 22-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man were struck while crossing the street in a marked crosswalk.

Police say the driver of a silver vehicle hit both pedestrians before fleeing the scene without stopping.

Victim Identified as 22-Year-Old Marcella Herrera

The woman who died was identified as Marcella Herrera, 22, by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

The male victim was also taken to the hospital and remains in serious condition, officials said.

No arrests have been made as of Sunday night, and police have not yet released a detailed description of the vehicle involved.

The case is being handled by the Major Accidents Investigations Unit, which continues to gather evidence and canvass the area for surveillance footage and witnesses.

Authorities are urging anyone who may have seen the incident or has information about the driver or vehicle involved to contact police. Tips can be submitted anonymously to CPD’s tip line or online.
