CHICAGO – A man was shot in the abdomen during an altercation in the West Rogers Park neighborhood Wednesday evening, according to Chicago police.
The incident happened around 8:40 p.m. near Devon Avenue and Oakley Avenue, a busy area in the heart of the neighborhood’s Little India district. Police said the 31-year-old man was inside a vehicle when he got into a quarrel with a pedestrian.
According to investigators, the man exited his vehicle during the argument, and the pedestrian pulled out a gun and shot him, striking him in the abdomen. The suspect then fled on foot.
Victim Hospitalized in Serious Condition
Police confirmed the victim was transported to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, where he was listed in serious condition as of late Wednesday night.
The motive behind the confrontation has not been released, and no weapons were recovered at the scene. The area is a dense corridor filled with restaurants, grocery stores, and shops, frequently busy into the evening hours.
Investigation Ongoing in Little India District
The West Rogers Park neighborhood — also referred to as West Ridge — has seen a mix of residential quiet and commercial bustle, especially along Devon Avenue, which runs through Chicago’s Indian and Pakistani business district.
As of Thursday morning, no arrests have been made, and detectives from the Belmont Area are actively investigating the shooting, as confirmed in the original CBS Chicago report.
