CHICAGO – Authorities have issued a warning after armed thieves allegedly targeted food delivery drivers in the city’s South Shore neighborhood, robbing them at gunpoint on the same block just days apart.
The Chicago Police Department said in each case, a group of one to four men approached delivery drivers with handguns, demanding their property before fleeing the scene.
Two Robberies Reported on South Kingston Avenue
Both robberies occurred on the 7700-block of South Kingston Avenue, police said:

- July 30 at around 11:00 p.m.
The suspects are described as men between the ages of 20 and 40. No injuries were reported, but the violent nature of the crimes has alarmed residents and workers in the area.

Delivery Drivers on Alert
The incidents have heightened concerns for gig workers and delivery drivers who say they often feel vulnerable when working late hours or navigating unfamiliar neighborhoods. Local advocacy groups have also voiced concern over the lack of protections for these workers.
“They’re targeted because they’re alone, mobile, and often carry cash or expensive food,” said a community safety volunteer based in South Shore.
