Manhunt Underway for Armed Gibson City Suspect After Two Officers Shot

CHICAGO — Authorities in central Illinois have launched a large-scale manhunt for a 70-year-old Gibson City man accused of shooting two police officers early Saturday morning after they responded to reports of a naked individual walking in the street.

Officers Shot While Responding to Disturbance

According to Illinois State Police, the incident began around 2:30 a.m. when Ford County Sheriff’s deputies and Gibson City Police Department officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Ash Street. The call involved reports of a naked man — later identified as David Jordan — moving through the neighborhood.

When officers attempted to make contact with Jordan at his residence, police say they were met with gunfire. A Gibson City police officer and a Ford County deputy sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to local hospitals for treatment.

Suspect Fled Scene Naked After Gunfire

Following the shooting, authorities reported that Jordan’s home caught fire and burned to the ground under unclear circumstances. He was last seen fleeing the area naked, and police believe he may now be using a red bicycle to move around.

Witnesses in the area described seeing armed state troopers combing the neighborhood on Saturday morning, searching abandoned homes and surrounding streets for any sign of the suspect.

Community on Edge as Search Continues

David Norbot, a local resident, said officers were heavily armed as they searched a house across from his property. “Three state troopers came around the house right across the street from me, guns drawn, and went into the house. That house is abandoned. There’s no one living in there now,” Norbot said.

State police are urging residents to remain vigilant and avoid contact with Jordan, who is considered armed and dangerous. The search has expanded beyond Gibson City, and authorities are working with multiple law enforcement agencies to track the suspect.

Public Urged to Report Sightings

Anyone with information on Jordan’s whereabouts is asked to call 911 immediately or contact the Gibson City Police Department at 217-784-8666. Officials stress that the suspect should not be approached under any circumstances.
