California Heat Alert: Sacramento to Hit 100°F Thursday With Rising Fire Risk
CALIFORNIA — After a brief stretch of mild temperatures, Sacramento is bracing for a dangerous heatwave that will bring triple-digit heat and elevated fire risk across the region by Thursday.
High Temperatures Climb All Week
The National Weather Service forecasts a steady rise in temperatures, starting in the mid-80s on Monday and climbing to 89°F Tuesday. By Wednesday, the mercury is expected to reach 95°F, culminating in a high of 100°F on Thursday — the city’s first triple-digit day in weeks.
The heat stretch is expected to continue into the weekend, with Friday’s forecast showing highs around 101°F and overnight lows in the upper 50s to mid-60s, offering minimal nighttime relief.
Fire Risk and Outdoor Safety
With dry conditions and sunny skies, fire danger is expected to surge across the Sacramento Valley and nearby foothills. PG&E and regional fire agencies are urging residents to take precautions, including:
- Avoiding outdoor burning
- Staying hydrated
- Limiting physical activity between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., the peak heat window
- Checking in on elderly neighbors or those without reliable air conditioning
Motorists traveling along I-5 and Highway 99 should be especially cautious, as pavement heat can increase tire stress and road surface damage during extended drives.
