Big Weather Change Coming To Chicago Area This Weekend
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS — Residents across the Chicago area will notice a major weather change beginning this weekend, as summer-like highs in the 80s give way to cooler-than-average conditions in the 70s, bringing what some may call an early taste of fall.
From Warmth to Weekend Cool-Down
According to the National Weather Service, Thursday and Friday will remain comfortable, with highs around 79–81°F under mostly sunny skies. While the overall pattern will be dry, forecasters say a few sprinkles or even an isolated storm could develop late Friday into Saturday, especially south and east of Interstate 55.
Saturday’s forecast calls for highs near 81°F, with partly sunny skies and breezy west winds gusting up to 20 mph.
Sunday Brings Noticeable Drop
The real shift arrives Sunday, when daytime highs will only reach 73–75°F under sunny skies. Monday will be even cooler, topping out around 70°F, with nighttime lows dropping to the low 50s.
By Tuesday and Wednesday, highs should hover in the low-to-mid 70s, continuing a trend that’s more reminiscent of late September than late August.

An Early Taste of Fall?
While late August is typically warm and humid in the Chicago region, this cool-down serves as a reminder that autumn is approaching. The shift to lower temperatures could provide relief for outdoor events and sports, while also signaling seasonal changes in Lake Michigan breezes and Midwest weather patterns.
