ARNOLDS PARK, IOWA — A routine check for underage drinking turned into a full-scale sweep in Arnolds Park this weekend, with 19 individuals arrested and 15 fake IDs confiscated, according to law enforcement.
The Arnolds Park Police Department, with support from multiple local and state agencies, conducted targeted enforcement operations on August 1, focusing on misuse of identification and public intoxication near popular recreational areas.
Names and Charges Released
Authorities released the names and locations of all individuals arrested, many of whom hailed from Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, and Arizona. The charges ranged from misuse of IDs to public intoxication, with some offenders facing both. Among those arrested, according to the official report by SiouxlandProud:
- Norah Dyke, MN – Misuse of ID to obtain alcohol
- Mercedes Wellik, MN – Misuse of ID, public intoxication
- Ben Reynolds, NE – Misuse of ID for alcohol/tobacco, intoxication
- Morgan Going, NE – Public intoxication
- Baylie Schulte, IA – Misuse of ID, intoxication
- Connor Hunt, NE – Multiple ID-related charges
- Marco Furcini, AZ – Misuse of ID, intoxication
- And others from Carroll, Sac City, Spencer, and Elkhorn
Law enforcement emphasized that fake IDs were a common denominator in the arrests.
Fake IDs and Public Safety Concerns
In total, 15 fake identification cards were seized during the enforcement. Officers say the IDs were being used to illegally purchase alcohol and tobacco.
“These IDs are getting more sophisticated, but we are trained and equipped to spot them,” a spokesperson with the Arnolds Park Police stated.
Officials noted the operation was timed to coincide with high tourist traffic in the area during summer weekends, especially around Lake Okoboji.
Multi-Agency Coordination Behind the Sweep
The arrests were made possible through cooperation between several law enforcement bodies including:
- Iowa State Patrol
- Okoboji Police Department
- Milford Police Department
- Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office
- Dickinson County Jail & Communications Center
All suspects were booked into the Dickinson County Jail, and additional charges may be pending.
