CHICAGO — Popular home decor retailer At Home has announced it will be closing 26 of its underperforming stores across 12 states — including two locations in Illinois — following its recent Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing.
Bankruptcy Filing Triggers Widespread Closures
On June 16, 2025, At Home, a Texas-based retailer, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, citing mounting tariff pressures, inflation, and declining consumer demand, along with more than $2 billion in debt.
To support its restructuring, the company has secured a $600 million debtor-in-possession financing package, which will help keep remaining stores operational during the reorganization, as confirmed by Business Wire.
Illinois Locations on the Shutdown List
Two stores in Illinois are slated for closure by September 30, 2025:
-
Peoria: 5203 W. War Memorial Drive
-
Crestwood (Chicago Suburb): 13180 S. Cicero Avenue
Additionally, a location in Wauwautosa, Wisconsin, will also shut down as part of the broader plan to eliminate underperforming stores.

Industry-Wide Retail Contraction
At Home now joins a growing list of national home goods chains that have closed stores or ceased operations altogether in recent years, including Bed, Bath & Beyond, Big Lots, and The Container Store, as reported by The Wall Street Journal.
Despite the closures, At Home said it intends to continue its online and in-store operations, including customer loyalty programs and vendor relationships, throughout the restructuring process, as highlighted by The Sun.
What This Means for Illinois Shoppers
With two Illinois stores closing, consumers in Peoria and the south suburbs of Chicago may need to shift to At Home’s online store or find alternative home decor retailers. As the company continues its business overhaul, more store changes could follow depending on restructuring outcomes.
