NAPERVILLE — A chiropractor practicing in Aurora has been indicted on 13 new sexual assault-related charges as additional victims — including minors — have come forward, according to updated reports from NBC Chicago.
Murtaza Hameed, 46, a Naperville resident, is now facing serious legal fallout as the scope of alleged misconduct expands to include victims ranging from pre-teens to adults, spanning a period between July 2016 and January 2025.
New Charges Involve Teens as Young as 16
Among the most disturbing developments: Hameed is now charged in connection with the sexual abuse of a 17-year-old boy in January and a 16-year-old from 2016, per Hoodline.
The charges filed in DuPage County include:
-
1 count of criminal sexual assault
-
5 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse
-
1 count of attempted criminal sexual assault
-
1 count of misdemeanor battery
Three additional charges relate to new allegations that surfaced during the ongoing investigation.
Judge Grants Release on Electronic Monitoring
Despite the growing number of allegations and the severity of the charges, a judge allowed Hameed to be released on home confinement with electronic monitoring, under the condition that he not have contact with any minors — except his own children.
Hameed was initially arrested in May, after the 17-year-old victim came forward. That arrest launched a wider inquiry which has since uncovered new complaints from other alleged victims, authorities said.
State’s Attorney Praises Victims’ Courage
DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin praised those who stepped forward, stating:
“The courage displayed by the victims in this case to come forward is inspiring,” he said in a statement obtained by ABC 7 Chicago.
Officials are urging anyone who may have had interactions with Hameed — or may have additional information — to contact local investigators.
Clinic Location and Community Impact
Hameed operated out of Arwa Chiropractic in Aurora. The business has not commented publicly on the case. Many in the Naperville-Aurora area are now re-evaluating their comfort with small medical clinics, especially those frequented by minors and teenagers.
Law enforcement emphasizes that the investigation remains open, and more charges could be filed if additional victims come forward.
