Burglars Steal Cash And Tip Jar In After-Hours Break-In At Pappy's Evergreen Park

EVERGREEN PARK, IL — A popular Evergreen Park diner was targeted in an early morning burglary this weekend, where two individuals stole cash from registers and made off with the staff’s tip jar — all while the restaurant was closed.

The incident occurred around 3:40 a.m. Saturday at Pappy’s Restaurant, located at 3301 W 95th St. According to a statement from the owners, security camera footage shows two unknown individuals forcefully entering the building and heading straight for the registers.

Suspects Emptied Registers, Took Tip Jar

The burglars reportedly emptied both cash registers and grabbed a jar containing employee tip money before fleeing the scene. No one was inside the restaurant at the time of the break-in.

“While we are relieved that no one was harmed during the incident, we are heartbroken by this violation of our space and the impact it has had on our team,” the owners shared in a Facebook post.

They added that they are cooperating fully with local police and have provided all available security footage to the investigators.

Pappy’s Was Also Targeted In 2023

This isn’t the first time Pappy’s has faced this kind of intrusion. Back in 2023, the restaurant was also burglarized, with suspects smashing windows and stealing a safe and a large amount of coins.

In both cases, the intruders acted when the business was closed and appeared to target the restaurant’s stored cash.

Community Reaction And Police Response

Evergreen Park Police have not yet released suspect descriptions but are actively reviewing the surveillance video. Investigators are urging anyone who may have seen anything unusual early Saturday morning to come forward.

The community has responded with supportive messages online, expressing concern for the staff and frustration over the repeat targeting of the beloved local spot.

“We will continue doing everything we can to ensure the safety of our staff, guests, and community, and we thank you for standing with us,” the owners stated.

How To Help Investigators

If you have any information or recognize the individuals from the surveillance video, you are asked to call Evergreen Park Police Department at 708-422-2142.
