California’s Central Valley Braces for 105-Degree Heat by Friday as Dry Spell Continues
CALIFORNIA — A significant heat wave is taking shape across California’s Central Valley, with temperatures forecasted to soar into the triple digits by the end of the week.
According to the National Weather Service, the region will remain mostly sunny and dry through the coming days, as daytime highs rise from the low 90s on Saturday to an expected peak of 105°F by Friday.
Rising Heat and Fire Risk Ahead
This extended dry period will bring persistent sunshine and warming air masses across the San Joaquin Valley, including Hanford and surrounding communities.
- Saturday: High near 93°F with overnight lows in the upper 60s
- Sunday–Tuesday: Highs hover around 91–93°F, lows in the low 60s
- Wednesday: High climbs to near 98°F
- Friday: Heat peaks at 105°F, posing elevated fire danger across dry brush zones
As the week progresses, northwest winds ranging from 5 to 10 mph—with occasional gusts up to 15 mph in the evenings—may exacerbate fire risk, especially in rural or grassy areas.
NWS Urges Precautions for Valley Residents
The National Weather Service (NWS) is advising residents to take safety measures during the upcoming hot spell:
- Stay hydrated and limit outdoor activity during the hottest afternoon hours
- Avoid open flames or outdoor burning, which could spark fast-moving fires
- Prepare for poor overnight relief, with lows expected to stay in the mid to upper 60s, offering little cooling overnight
This late-summer heat is not uncommon in the region but could pose particular threats for outdoor workers, older adults, children, and pets.
