CHICAGO — A 36-year-old man with a concealed carry license fatally shot a robbery suspect who allegedly tried to hold him up at gunpoint Tuesday night in the Humboldt Park neighborhood, according to Chicago police.
The incident occurred around 10:48 p.m. in the 1400 block of North Artesian Avenue, where the victim was retrieving items from his vehicle when he was confronted by an armed man demanding his belongings.
Victim Legally Armed, Shoots in Self-Defense
Police say the victim, who holds a valid Concealed Carry License (CCL), pulled out his own firearm and fired multiple rounds at the offender, striking him several times. The suspect was transported to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The deceased has only been identified as an 18-year-old male. No further identifying details were released as of Wednesday morning.
No Injuries to Victim, Investigation Ongoing
Police confirmed that the CCL holder was not injured in the confrontation. The case is currently under review by Area Five detectives, and as of now, no charges have been filed against the CCL holder.
This case is expected to undergo further examination by the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, a standard procedure when fatal shootings involve licensed gun owners acting in self-defense.
