CHICAGO — A downtown demonstration against the Trump administration’s immigration policies turned tense Tuesday evening, resulting in 17 arrests and one injury after a vehicle plowed through part of the protest.
The Chicago Police Department (CPD) confirmed that the protest took place in the Loop, where demonstrators gathered to voice opposition to federal immigration tactics. Around 6:30 p.m., a car drove into the crowd, striking a 66-year-old woman.
The woman was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where she was treated and later released. Authorities say the driver fled the scene and has not been located as of Wednesday.
During the protest against ICE in Downtown Chicago earlier today, a vehicle was caught on video nearly striking multiple pedestrians and a cyclist. Protesters can be seen briefly pursuing and hitting the car before it sped away from the scene without stopping. #chicago… pic.twitter.com/UcJe4xDPEm

Broader Context of Immigration Protests in Chicago
This protest follows a string of recent demonstrations in Chicago opposing federal immigration raids and deportation efforts. Earlier in the week, thousands marched downtown demanding the release of labor organizer David Huerta, who was detained in Los Angeles by ICE.
The Loop has become a recurring site for civil unrest tied to immigration enforcement, with many local activists calling for sanctuary protections and reduced cooperation with federal agencies.
