CHICAGO — A downtown hit-and-run incident has left a 66-year-old man in critical condition, according to Chicago police.

The crash occurred around 9:40 p.m. Friday in the 0–100 block of South Michigan Avenue, an area just steps from Millennium Park and the Art Institute, in the heart of the Loop.

Police say the man had entered the street to retrieve his dog when he was struck by a white sedan that did not stop and continued driving. The impact knocked the man to the ground, and he suffered severe head trauma.

Emergency responders treated him at the scene before transporting him to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition as of Friday night.
