CHICAGO — The Chicago Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect believed to be involved in a recent string of armed robberies in the Washington Heights neighborhood on the South Side.
According to detectives from Area Two, at least three robberies have been reported in May, all involving a masked individual with a firearm. In each case, the suspect approached victims and demanded belongings before fleeing on foot.
Incident Breakdown
Here’s the timeline of the reported robberies:
- May 9, 2025 – 7:52 p.m.
Location: 9300 block of South Ashland Avenue - May 15, 2025 – 5:02 p.m.
Location: 1700 block of West 87th Street - May 21, 2025 – 11:47 p.m.
Location: 1700 block of West 87th Street (same area as second incident)
No injuries were reported in these incidents, but police emphasize the suspect is armed and dangerous.
Surveillance Video and Suspect Description
Police have released surveillance footage showing the suspect in hopes someone may recognize them. The individual is described as:
- Wearing a light-colored hoodie or dark jacket
- Carrying a book bag
- Face was partially covered or masked in all incidents
Detectives believe the suspect may be familiar with the area given the repeated activity around West 87th Street.
