CHICAGO — A series of armed robberies across five Chicago neighborhoods has prompted an urgent public alert from police, as investigators work to track down a group of masked suspects believed to be terrorizing residents during late-night hours.
Robberies Span West Loop, West Town, Little Italy, Goose Island, and Fulton Market
According to a community alert issued by the Chicago Police Department, the suspects have targeted multiple victims between July 3 and July 4. The robberies occurred in dense urban areas including the West Loop, West Town, Little Italy, Fulton Market District, and Goose Island.
Police say the offenders are 2 to 4 males, estimated to be between 16 and 25 years old, who approached victims wearing dark clothing and black ski masks. Each robbery was carried out at gunpoint — with assailants demanding personal belongings and phone passcodes. In several cases, victims were pistol-whipped, while in two incidents, the suspects fled empty-handed.
Stolen Infiniti Q50 Used in the Attacks
The offenders were reported to be driving a stolen gray Infiniti Q50, which was seen at multiple crime scenes. The vehicle has become a key piece of the investigation, as police review surveillance footage and seek public tips about its movements over the two-day spree.
The areas affected include locations along West Carroll Avenue and North Laflin Street, dense with restaurants, apartment complexes, and nightlife traffic. Police believe the choice of neighborhoods was intentional due to high pedestrian volume and limited street visibility during late hours.
Police Urge Community Safety First: ‘Do Not Resist’
In their alert, CPD emphasized that the safety of residents is paramount.
“Never resist a robbery. Value your life over any and all property,” the department stated.
Victims and witnesses are urged to memorize unique features of the suspects—such as a limp, visible tattoos, or other distinguishing traits—and to avoid confrontation. Authorities also advise:
