CHICAGO — A late-night robbery attempt aboard a CTA Red Line train near 95th Street ended in tragedy when an 18-year-old man was shot and critically injured, according to Chicago police.
The shooting occurred around 10 p.m. Saturday on the train’s 0-100 block of W. 95th Street on the city’s Far South Side.
Robbery turns violent aboard Red Line
Chicago police said the teen was riding the train when he was approached by an unidentified male gunman, who demanded his belongings. When the victim did not comply, the suspect opened fire, striking him in the chest and right flank.
The victim was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition.
Investigation underway
No arrests have been made, and area detectives are actively investigating the shooting. The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived, and as of now, no one is in custody. The incident was initially reported by FOX 32 Chicago.
This case comes amid growing concerns about violent incidents on public transit in Chicago, with several shootings reported in or around CTA stations this year alone.
