CHICAGO, IL — A heated moment on national television has put a spotlight on the growing frustration of some Chicago residents, after a local man accused the city’s leadership of mismanagement and misplaced priorities — stating plainly that “our city sucks because our mayor sucks.”
The outburst came from South Side resident Vashon Tuncle, who appeared Monday night on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle” alongside former ICE Director Tom Homan. The emotional segment quickly gained traction across social media, fueling public debate about city policies and Mayor Brandon Johnson’s approval ratings.
“You’re Doing a Better Job Than the Mayor”
Tuncle, speaking directly to Homan during the segment, didn’t mince words:
“Our city sucks because our governor sucks and our mayor sucks.”
He specifically criticized Mayor Johnson for, in his view, prioritizing services for undocumented immigrants over struggling Chicagoans, pointing to more than $500 million in resources that have reportedly been allocated to migrant aid while local homelessness and poverty remain widespread.
“You’re actually doing a better job than the mayor is when it comes to listening to us,” Tuncle said.
Criticism Over Community Disconnection
Tuncle also called out Johnson’s handling of public criticism, citing examples of dissenters being removed from public forums and ignored during town hall-style meetings.
According to Tuncle, the administration’s actions have left many residents feeling silenced and unsupported:
“It’s not the right thing to do as a mayor when you have a 14% approval rating.”
Former ICE Chief Promises Return to Chicago
Tom Homan, who appeared with Tuncle, pledged a renewed federal push to address community safety and immigration enforcement in Chicago.
“The mayor sucks, and the governor sucks because they’re protecting illegal aliens, especially criminal illegal aliens,” Homan said.
He confirmed that he plans to return to Chicago as part of a larger ICE operation intended to restore public safety, regardless of cooperation from City Hall.
Homan also claimed to be in communication with Chicago pastors and neighborhood leaders who support his plan to bring federal pressure to the city’s most troubled areas.
Calls for Change Intensify
Fox News host Laura Ingraham closed the segment by warning that the next three months could prove pivotal for Chicago’s leadership:
“If I know one thing about Tom Homan, he’s unstoppable once he has the authority to act.”
The segment struck a nerve with Chicagoans on both sides of the issue, with some echoing Tuncle’s frustrations while others pushed back, arguing that federal crackdowns will further erode trust in local communities.
Still, the moment highlighted a deepening divide between City Hall and residents who feel left behind in the current political climate.
