Chicago Weather Alert: 90° Heat Today, Thunderstorm Chances Return Friday

CHICAGO — The city is set to experience a hot summer day with highs expected to reach 86–91°F in many neighborhoods, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Chicago.

While the weather remains dry and sunny Wednesday, the agency is warning residents that rain and thunderstorm chances will return by Friday, lingering into Saturday, especially across the Illinois-Wisconsin border and along the I-55 corridor.

“Cooler temps arrive this weekend especially near Lake Michigan, but temps look to rebound early next week,” NWS forecasters said.

Lake Michigan Influence To Bring Cooler Air This Weekend

The NWS says areas near the lakefront will begin cooling sooner, especially starting Friday night. The cooler air will linger into the weekend, particularly on Saturday and Sunday, as highs in those locations drop back into the mid-70s to low 80s.

Inland areas may still hold on to slightly warmer air during the day but are expected to cool overnight as well.

Next Week: Gradual Warm-Up Expected

After the weekend cooldown, forecasters say early indications point to a return to warmer and more stable weather starting Monday. No major storm systems are currently forecast for early next week.
