CHICAGO — The Chicago Police Department has issued a community alert following two back-to-back robberies that occurred just minutes apart early Thursday morning in the bustling River North neighborhood.
Both incidents happened shortly before 2 a.m. on the first two blocks of West Kinzie Street, according to police. Officials say the same group of suspects may be responsible for both assaults.
Victims Assaulted; One Reports Robbers Impersonated Police
According to CPD’s alert, three male suspects targeted “lone, unsuspecting victims in public,” using physical force to rob them of their property.
One of the victims reported that the attackers claimed to be police officers, a detail now under investigation and considered serious due to the potential misuse of authority. The full incident report confirms the impersonation claim.
“They claimed they were law enforcement, then jumped him,” said a source close to the case.
Suspect Descriptions Released
Police have released descriptions of the offenders, who are all believed to be:
-
Black males in their 20s
-
Dreadlocks
-
5’10” to 6’0” tall
-
175 to 185 pounds
As of now, no arrests have been made, and CPD continues to urge residents to be cautious while walking alone late at night.
River North Security Concerns Resurface
The alert has once again spotlighted safety issues in River North, one of Chicago’s busiest nightlife corridors. The area is popular among tourists, hospitality workers, and residents and is known for late-night foot traffic.
Officers are increasing their presence in the neighborhood, particularly during the overnight hours, to deter further incidents. Investigators are also canvassing the area for surveillance footage that may help identify the suspects.
