CHICAGO, IL — A late-night home invasion on Chicago’s West Side ended with a family dog being shot, police confirmed Tuesday. The incident occurred around 11:02 p.m. in the 1400 block of North Waller Avenue in the Austin neighborhood.
Suspect Forced Entry, Fired Inside Residence
According to Chicago police, a male suspect forced his way into the home and opened fire inside the property, striking a dog. No human injuries were reported, but the shooting left the household shaken.
Authorities say the suspect fled the scene before officers arrived. No arrests have been made as of Wednesday morning.
Dog Transported for Emergency Treatment
The injured dog was quickly taken to MetVet Chicago, an emergency animal clinic. As of the latest update, police described the animal’s condition as “fair.”
Police did not share details about the breed or age of the dog.
Ongoing Investigation
The case is currently being handled by Area Four detectives, who are reviewing evidence and canvassing the neighborhood for leads. As of now, police have not released any suspect description or possible motive behind the shooting.
Neighbors expressed concern about the rising trend of violent home invasions, noting that gunfire inside residences places both humans and pets at risk.
