Englewood Community Joins Police in Search for Missing 26-Year-Old Man

CHICAGO — A growing sense of urgency surrounds the case of a missing man in Englewood, where community members and law enforcement are working together in hopes of finding 26-year-old Jerome Purdis, who disappeared last Sunday.

Declared an Endangered Missing Person

The Chicago Police Department has officially classified Purdis as an endangered missing person, heightening concern for his safety. According to police, Purdis has not been seen or heard from since the weekend, and his family is deeply worried.

Purdis is described as:

  • 5 feet 6 inches tall

  • 160 pounds

  • Brown eyes

  • Black hair with long dreadlocks

  • Mustache and beard

He was last seen wearing a blue GAP-logo sweater, black shorts, and red and black shoes, per a CPD bulletin issued earlier this week.

Family and Community Voice Concern

According to police, family members contacted authorities soon after Jerome was last seen, saying his disappearance is entirely out of character. The incident has sparked a wave of concern throughout the Englewood neighborhood.

Residents have been posting flyers and checking nearby surveillance cameras in hopes of finding any clues that might lead to his whereabouts.

“We just want him to come home safe. This is not like him at all,” one family member reportedly told officers during an emotional plea.

Police Continue the Search

Officers have canvassed parts of Englewood and surrounding South Side areas in an effort to locate Jerome. The CPD’s Missing Persons Division is asking for the public’s help and encouraging anyone with information, no matter how small, to come forward.

“Every minute counts in missing person cases. We urge anyone who may have seen Jerome or knows where he might be to call 911 or contact Area One detectives,” said a police spokesperson.

More information and updates can be found on the Chicago Police Department’s official site.
