SCHAUMBURG, IL — A fire caused by a damaged gas line during construction prompted the evacuation of the Meineke Recreation Center on Monday morning, according to local officials.

The incident occurred just after 11 a.m. at the Meineke Recreation Center, located at 220 E. Weathersfield Way. Village officials reported that a gas line was struck by construction crews, igniting a blaze that led to an immediate evacuation of the facility.
According to FOX 32 Chicago, flames were contained to the construction zone, and no injuries were reported. Emergency teams responded quickly to secure the area and ensure public safety.
Facilities Closed, Roads Blocked Near Incident Site
Due to the fire, both the recreation center and its adjacent pool were closed for the remainder of the day. Officials also shut down Weathersfield Way between Queens Court and Creighton Lane, advising drivers to steer clear of the affected area.
