German Flavor Manufacturer Silesia To Open $40M Facility In Huntley, Bringing 41 New Jobs

HUNTLEY, Ill. — German-based Silesia Flavors is set to significantly expand its U.S. footprint with a new $40 million manufacturing facility in Huntley, Illinois — its second in the state.

The move not only strengthens Illinois’ reputation as a national leader in food processing but also promises 41 new full-time jobs and future expansion capacity for the global flavor manufacturer.

“I am thrilled that Silesia is doubling down on their commitment to Illinois,” said Gov. JB Pritzker in a statement, praising the project for boosting local jobs and innovation.

A New Hub For Flavor Innovation

The upcoming 120,000-square-foot facility will be located off Route 47 near I-90 on 20 acres of land — with space for an additional 60,000-square-foot expansion. It will serve as a hub for savory and sweet powdered and liquid flavor production, geared toward food and beverage manufacturers across North and South America.

Key features include:

  • Culinary research labs

  • Flavor development for products like snacks, sauces, dressings, and sports nutrition

  • A high-capacity production system aligned with global distribution

Huntley Offers Economic Incentives

To support Silesia’s expansion, the Village of Huntley has granted several economic incentives:

  • 100% property tax rebate (village share) for five years

  • $25,000 relocation grant

  • Job creation grant capped at $50,000 for roles added in the first 24 months

“Silesia choosing Huntley highlights the synergy between business growth and a thriving community,” said Mayor Tim Hoeft.

Company Background And Illinois Roots

Silesia has been operating in Illinois for decades:

  • 1996: U.S. sales office opened in Elk Grove Village

  • 2001: First production facility opened in Hoffman Estates, producing liquid sweet flavors for bakery, dairy, and beverage industries

The new Huntley plant will complement, not replace, those operations — offering expanded capabilities for powdered and savory flavors.

Illinois: A Growing Destination for Food Manufacturing

Silesia’s decision aligns with broader efforts under Illinois’ Economic Growth Plan, which promotes high-growth industries including food processing. Major players like Ferrero, Kraft Heinz, Wrigley, and Mondelez already call the state home.

The company’s project will benefit from the state’s EDGE tax credit program, which attracted over $650 million in investments statewide in 2024 alone.

“Illinois continues to attract world-class companies because of our workforce, infrastructure, and global business reputation,” said DCEO Director Kristin Richards.
