Gunman Fatally Shot After Targeting Concealed Carry Holder In Humboldt Park

CHICAGO — An 18-year-old armed man who went on a violent carjacking and robbery spree Tuesday night was fatally shot by a concealed carry license (CCL) holder in Humboldt Park, according to Chicago police and Cook County Medical Examiner records.

The suspect, whose name has not yet been released publicly, was shot multiple times after attempting to rob a 36-year-old man on the 1400 block of North Artesian Avenue around 10:48 p.m. The victim, who was unloading a vehicle at the time, was a licensed CCL holder and drew his own weapon when confronted, firing at the suspect’s chest and head.

Suspect Linked To Multiple Armed Robberies Minutes Before Shooting

According to CWBChicago, the deceased suspect had already committed at least two armed robberies in the minutes leading up to the shooting.

  • Around 10:30 p.m., he allegedly robbed a man in Austin, near Fulton and Kilpatrick, and stole a gray 2025 Toyota Corolla.

  • Just 13 minutes later, at 10:43 p.m., he pulled up in that same vehicle to the 2500 block of West Haddon in Humboldt Park, where he robbed two women at gunpoint, stealing their purses, wallets, and phones.

When police arrived at the shooting scene minutes later, they found the stolen Toyota Corolla and personal property belonging to the two female victims inside the vehicle, confirming a direct connection between the three crimes.

Investigation Ongoing, Police Confirm Use Of CCL

Chicago police are still investigating the full timeline of the suspect’s actions, but said the victim who fired the fatal shots was legally armed under Illinois’ concealed carry law. Emergency medical services transported the suspect to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

A CPD spokesperson confirmed the shooting was part of an active robbery in progress.
