Illinois EPA Announces Free Hazardous Waste Collection Event in Romeoville This November

ILLINOIS — The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced a series of upcoming Household Hazardous Waste collection events across the state, including a stop in Romeoville on November 8.

Safe, Free Disposal for Hazardous Household Items

The one-day events give residents a free opportunity to safely dispose of unused or leftover hazardous products often found in homes. Common items accepted include old cleaning products, paints, solvents, pesticides, automotive fluids, and other chemicals that should not be placed in regular trash.

All Illinois residents are welcome to participate, regardless of city of residence. Each event will operate from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on its scheduled day.

Why Hazardous Waste Disposal Matters

Improperly discarding hazardous materials can contaminate soil, groundwater, and waterways, creating risks for both the environment and public health. Events like this allow residents to keep dangerous substances out of landfills and municipal waste streams.

Participants are encouraged to transport items in sealed containers, keep them upright, and avoid mixing different materials in the same box or bag.
