ILLINOIS — A truck driver from Aurora, Illinois has been arrested and charged with attempted murder after allegedly opening fire on a car traveling along Interstate 83 in Baltimore County, Maryland on June 18. The targeted vehicle was carrying two adults and a 2-year-old child, according to state police.
No injuries were reported, but authorities found a bullet hole in the passenger window and a projectile embedded in the seat — suggesting the family narrowly avoided tragedy.
Suspect Tracked to Illinois-Based Trucking Company
The shooter was later identified as Christian Ramos, a driver for Tag Trans Inc., a trucking firm based in Illinois. Maryland State Police investigators reviewed dashcam footage and trucking logs, which helped track Ramos to a TA Travel Center in Elkton, Maryland, where he was arrested on June 19.
According to reports, police also discovered a loaded .45-caliber handgun, multiple spent shell casings, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition inside the truck during the arrest.
Facing Multiple Charges, More Incidents Possible
Ramos now faces the following charges:
-
3 counts of attempted first-degree murder
-
Several firearms violations
Investigators believe he may be connected to three other shootings that happened on the same evening — June 18 — in southern Pennsylvania, not far from the Maryland state line.
The Pennsylvania State Police are now assisting in the multi-state investigation.
Drivers who traveled on I-83 between 10 p.m. and midnight on June 18 are urged to check dashcams and report any suspicious activity to Maryland State Police Highway Gun Crimes Initiative at (410) 538-1887.
