LASALLE COUNTY, IL — A serious crash involving a semi-truck and a box truck shut down the westbound lanes of Interstate 80 on Thursday afternoon, causing major traffic delays in LaSalle County.

According to the Illinois State Police (ISP), the collision occurred around 1:40 p.m. near milepost 75 in the vicinity of Peru, a city along the Illinois River. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene and confirmed that at least one person was transported to a local hospital. However, the extent of their injuries has not yet been released by authorities.
Traffic Rerouted as Investigation Continues
By 3:30 p.m., the westbound lanes of I-80 remained fully closed, leading to heavy congestion. ISP officials stated that traffic was being diverted off the interstate at the exit ramp at milepost 75 to ease the buildup while emergency services and investigators continued their work.
No estimates have been given for when the lanes might reopen.
