Man Accused of Robbing Two Women at Sox-35th Red Line Platform Arrested and Detained

CHICAGO — A 19-year-old man has been charged in connection with two early morning robberies at the Sox-35th Red Line platform, where he allegedly used the threat of a weapon to intimidate victims and steal personal items, prosecutors said.

Incident at Sox-35th Red Line Station

On the morning of June 14, Curtis Edwards reportedly targeted two women sitting on the CTA platform near Sox Park around 7 a.m.

  • In the first encounter, Edwards approached a woman while displaying a handgun tucked into his waistband. He demanded her belongings but left without taking anything, according to prosecutors.

  • Moments later, he allegedly confronted a second woman, implied he had a weapon, and demanded her possessions. She gave him a makeup bag, but Edwards returned shortly after and took her wallet and iPhone from her purse.

He then fled the scene aboard a southbound Red Line train.

Arrest and Charges

Edwards was taken into custody by Chicago police last week. During an interview with detectives, prosecutors said the suspect made incriminating statements about his involvement in the incident.

He has since been charged with aggravated robbery and attempted armed robbery.

Court Ruling

Judge Shauna Boliker ordered Edwards to remain in custody pending trial. No bond was issued due to the nature of the charges and the evidence presented during his bond hearing.

CTA Safety Concerns Persist

This incident adds to ongoing concerns about public safety on the CTA system. While city officials have deployed increased security at various train stations, many riders continue to report feeling unsafe, particularly during early morning and late-night commutes.
