ILLINOIS — Police have charged a 44-year-old man with first-degree murder following a deadly shooting that claimed the life of a young man in an Aurora apartment on Sunday evening.

Shooting Followed Apparent Dispute Between Acquaintances

The fatal shooting occurred around 5:56 p.m. on Sunday, June 29, at an apartment in the 100 block of South Lincoln Avenue. Responding officers from the Aurora Police Department found Tirom Kirksey Jr., 21, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Paramedics from the Aurora Fire Department transported Kirksey to Rush Copley Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 6:39 p.m. that same evening.

Suspect Identified and Charged With Multiple Felonies

Authorities have charged Nathanael Carire-Arocho, 44, also of Aurora, with the following:

  • First-degree murder

  • Armed violence

  • Unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon

The Kane County Coroner’s Office completed an autopsy on Monday, officially confirming Kirksey’s identity and cause of death.

Police Say the Men Were Acquainted Before Shooting

According to the Aurora Police Department, preliminary information suggests that the shooting followed a dispute between the two men, who were acquainted. Investigators from the department’s Investigations Division and crime scene technicians processed the scene late into Sunday evening.

Investigation Continues As Authorities Build Case

Police have not disclosed a possible motive beyond the reported dispute. Carire-Arocho remains in custody pending further court proceedings.
