CHICAGO — A man was fatally shot in the early morning hours of Saturday in the city’s Bucktown neighborhood, prompting an active homicide investigation by Chicago police.
According to authorities, officers responded to the 2200 block of West Cortland Street around 3 a.m. after receiving reports of gunfire in the area. When they arrived, they discovered a 32-year-old man unresponsive, suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.
Victim Died at Hospital Despite Emergency Response
Emergency crews transported the man to St. Mary’s Hospital, where medical staff attempted to save his life. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
As of now, the identity of the victim has not been released publicly, pending notification of his family.
No Arrests Yet as Police Seek Information
Chicago police have not announced any arrests or suspects in connection to the shooting. The investigation is ongoing, and detectives are currently reviewing surveillance footage and canvassing the neighborhood for witnesses.
