CHICAGO — A 42-year-old man was fatally stabbed on a CTA Blue Line train near Rosemont station Wednesday evening, following a violent altercation that disrupted train service and drew significant police response.
Altercation Turns Deadly on North River Road
Authorities said the incident took place around 7:50 p.m. in the 5800 block of North River Road, when two men began arguing aboard a Blue Line train. During the dispute, one man allegedly pulled out a sharp object and stabbed the other in the thigh.
Emergency personnel quickly arrived and transported the injured man to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, but despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Suspect in Custody as Investigation Continues
The suspect was taken into custody on the scene, although his identity has not yet been released. Charges are reportedly pending as the investigation remains ongoing, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
Police forensic teams combed through the affected train car to gather evidence, which contributed to a significant disruption of Blue Line service between O’Hare and Cumberland stations.
Commuters Frustrated, Safety Concerns Rise
Trains ran on a single track for hours following the stabbing, with major delays lasting past 10 p.m. Many riders expressed frustration and concern over the violent incident, which occurred during the evening rush hour.
A report from CBS Chicago confirmed the injury as a puncture wound to the thigh, raising further questions about safety on public transit.
As of Thursday morning, the Chicago Transit Authority had not issued an official statement. Police assured the public that the suspect is in custody, and there is no ongoing threat to commuters.
