Man Found Fatally Shot Near Albany Park Playground

CHICAGO — A 22-year-old man found unresponsive near a North Side playground Thursday morning has been confirmed as a homicide victim, according to officials with the Chicago Police Department and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Body found near Ronan Park walking path

Chicago Fire Department crews were dispatched around 8 a.m. to Ronan Park, located at 3000 W. Argyle St., after reports of a person struggling to breathe near a walking path close to the playground area. First responders found the man unresponsive with visible injuries, prompting immediate notification of police.

A screwdriver and pool of blood were discovered near the body, initially leading detectives to suspect a stabbing. However, further medical examination revealed a gunshot wound to the head.

Medical examiner rules death a homicide

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office later confirmed the victim had died from a gunshot wound, and officially classified the case as a homicide. The man’s identity has not yet been publicly released.

Investigation still ongoing

Chicago Police have not made any arrests and no suspects have been named as of Saturday. The motive behind the killing remains under investigation, and authorities are continuing to gather surveillance footage and witness statements from the area.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact CPD’s Area Five detectives or submit an anonymous tip through CPD’s tip line or Chicago Crime Stoppers.
