CHICAGO — A fatal hit-and-run crash on Lake Shore Drive in the Lakeview neighborhood early Saturday morning has prompted Chicago police to issue a public appeal for witnesses.
Victim Found Near Addison on Lake Shore Drive
Authorities responded around 3:34 a.m. to the northbound lanes of Lake Shore Drive, just north of Addison Street, after receiving reports of a man down in the roadway. Emergency responders discovered a 26-year-old man who had been struck by a vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man, whose name has not yet been released, was on foot when the crash occurred, according to police. Initial reports indicate he was walking in the second traffic lane from the right when a vehicle hit him and fled northbound without stopping.
Victim Lived Nearby in Uptown
According to a traffic crash report reviewed by CWBChicago, the man resided in Uptown, approximately six blocks from the scene of the collision. Authorities have not confirmed why the man was walking along the drive at that hour.
Police Seeking Witnesses to Fatal Crash
The Chicago Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Unit is now handling the case and is urging anyone who may have seen the crash or the fleeing vehicle to come forward.
