New Wellness Workshops Launch in Davenport for Cancer Patients and Survivors

DAVENPORT, IA — Cancer Support Community Iowa and NW Illinois, operating at Gilda’s Club in Davenport, is launching two free, in-person wellness workshops designed to help individuals impacted by cancer live healthier, more connected lives. The sessions will begin on Wednesday, June 18, and are open to all community members with registration.

Barre for Beginners and Nourish & Network Debut June 18

The new workshop series includes:

  • Barre for Beginners
    Time: 10–10:45 a.m.
Location: Gilda’s Club Davenport, 1351 W. Central Park Ave., Suite 200
This low-impact, full-body class combines elements of ballet, Pilates, and yoga. It’s designed to enhance strength, flexibility, and posture—ideal for cancer survivors and those seeking gentle re-entry into physical activity. After class, participants will receive educational resources on heart health.

  • Nourish & Network
    Time: 11–11:30 a.m.
Following the fitness class, participants can attend a guided nutrition and conversation session. This session includes a sampling of lemon hummus dip, along with a discussion on the nutritional benefits of its ingredients. The goal is to encourage bonding, connection, and shared wellness journeys.

Why These Programs Matter

Cancer patients and survivors often face challenges beyond treatment—from fatigue and weight gain to emotional isolation. These new workshops address both physical and emotional needs, helping participants:

  • Rebuild strength through safe, adaptive movement

  • Learn accessible, nutrition-forward habits

  • Engage in meaningful peer support

  • Reconnect with community in a judgment-free space

The programming is part of Cancer Support Community’s broader mission to provide no-cost support services that remove barriers to care.

Registration Information

Participants can choose to attend one or both sessions. However, separate registration is required for each class.

Workshops are held in person only and advance sign-up is required.
