North Carolina Teen Arrested for String of Tobacco Shop Robberies in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC — An 18-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with a string of robberies at CBD and tobacco shops across Charlotte, culminating in a July armed robbery that netted over $3,300 in stolen goods and cash, according to police.

Police say suspect targeted CBD and vape shops since May

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) reported that officers were dispatched to a robbery in progress in the 7000 block of South Boulevard just before midnight on July 8, 2025. The suspects fled with merchandise and money from the business, which sells tobacco and CBD-related items.

Following an extensive investigation involving witness interviews and surveillance footage, police identified one of the suspects as Jordan Bernard Langford-Coker, an 18-year-old resident of Charlotte.

According to CMPD, Langford-Coker was connected to three previous thefts dating back to May 2025 that shared similar characteristics. All incidents involved targeting businesses specializing in tobacco and vape-related goods. The reported case numbers include:

  • 20250522-1344-01
  • 20250609-1305-01
  • 20250618-2314-01
  • 20250708-2358-02 (the most recent incident)

Charges include armed robbery, conspiracy, and larceny

Langford-Coker was arrested on July 22 by CMPD’s Violent Crime Apprehension Team (VCAT). Police have charged him with:

  • Two counts of misdemeanor larceny
  • Two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon
  • One count of conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon

CMPD officials confirmed that the suspect’s actions represented a “sharp escalation” from minor theft to violent crime, noting the use of a weapon during at least one of the incidents.

CMPD shared surveillance photos and details from the July robbery, urging the public and business owners to stay vigilant and report suspicious activity.

Police stress continued vigilance and safety

In a statement posted to social media, CMPD reiterated their commitment to cracking down on crimes affecting local businesses, particularly in the wake of rising incidents involving younger individuals.

“Community safety and curtailing brazen thefts remain a top priority,” CMPD said, while urging business owners to invest in security systems and maintain open communication with police.
