Ohio Valley Forecast: Strong Storms, Heavy Rain Possible in Central and Southwest Ohio Tuesday Evening
CINCINNATI, OHIO — Residents across southwest Ohio, northern Kentucky, and southeast Indiana are being urged to prepare for volatile conditions Tuesday as oppressive heat combines with the risk of strong thunderstorms during the evening hours.
Heat Index Over 100°F Before Storms Arrive
The National Weather Service in Wilmington reported that Cincinnati temperatures could climb to 95°F, with a heat index near 101°F by midafternoon. The combination of high heat and humidity is expected to make outdoor conditions uncomfortable and raise risks for heat-related illness.
Officials advised residents to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous activity during peak afternoon hours, and check on vulnerable neighbors who may not have access to air conditioning.
Storms Expected Along I-71 and I-75 Corridors
By late afternoon into the evening, forecasters expect scattered thunderstorms to develop across central and southwest Ohio. While widespread severe weather is not expected, isolated strong cells could produce:
- Damaging winds
- Brief heavy downpours
- Localized flooding in low-lying or poorly drained areas
Travelers along the busy I-71 and I-75 corridors near Cincinnati are advised to plan for slick roads and reduced visibility during the evening commute.
Flooding and Safety Concerns
Rainfall totals will generally remain under an inch, but forecasters caution that short bursts of heavy rain may cause ponding on roadways and brief urban flooding. Motorists should reduce speed in wet conditions and never attempt to drive through flooded intersections.
Conditions Improve Midweek
The storm threat will taper off late Tuesday night, giving way to calmer weather on Wednesday. Highs are expected to remain in the mid-80s under partly sunny skies, providing some relief after a hot and stormy start to the week.
No hazardous weather is forecast through the weekend once the current storm system moves east, allowing for a stretch of sunny and warmer days.
