PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA — A Sunday evening celebration in East Liberty turned dangerous when a driverless vehicle rolled into a festival crowd, injuring six people and forcing an emergency response in one of Pittsburgh’s busiest neighborhoods.

Accident Unfolds at East Liberty Festival

The incident happened just before 6:30 p.m. at Broad Street and Centre Avenue, where festivalgoers had gathered. Witnesses told police the vehicle moved forward slowly with no one inside, striking several pedestrians before coming to a stop.

Emergency crews from Pittsburgh Police, Fire, and EMS quickly arrived at the scene to treat the injured and secure the area.

Victims and Conditions Reported

According to Pittsburgh EMS, six individuals were injured. Five were taken to nearby hospitals, with three listed in serious but stable condition and two in stable condition. A sixth victim was treated at the scene and declined further transport.

Authorities confirmed the victims included five women and one man. Their identities have not yet been released.

Vehicle Owner Cooperates with Police

Investigators reported that the male owner of the vehicle stayed on scene and cooperated fully with authorities. He told police he believed he had shifted the car into park before stepping away, but the vehicle began moving on its own.

At this stage, police said the incident appears to have been accidental, with no evidence of criminal intent.
