CHICAGO — A 36-year-old man was hospitalized after being slashed multiple times with a razor blade during a violent altercation aboard a CTA Red Line train early Monday morning in the Uptown neighborhood.
The attack happened around 3:30 a.m., according to Chicago police, during a fight between two men traveling northbound. As the dispute escalated, one of the men reportedly pulled out a “sharp object” — believed to be a razor blade — and cut the other man several times before fleeing the scene.

Police said first responders found the victim with multiple lacerations and confirmed he appeared to have been cut with a razor. He was transported to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center and listed in fair condition.
As of Monday morning, there were no arrests, and police had not recovered the weapon.
Suspect Description Released
The suspect, who fled the Wilson station on foot, is described as:
-
A Black male in his 40s
-
Weighing between 150 and 160 pounds
-
Wearing a red jacket, blue backpack, and had braided hair
Authorities are asking CTA riders or nearby residents who may have seen the altercation or have surveillance footage to come forward.
Red Line Safety Concerns Resurface
This incident adds to a growing list of overnight assaults on the CTA system, particularly on the Red Line, which runs 24/7 and often sees reduced security staffing during overnight hours.
While the CTA has made recent efforts to deploy more security contractors and install additional cameras, many riders say violent encounters remain frequent, especially during early morning travel windows.
