Search Intensifies for Missing Man David Jordan in Central Illinois Cornfields
CHICAGO — A large-scale search is underway in Central Illinois for 31-year-old David Jordan, who was last seen Monday evening after reportedly running into a cornfield near Cisco, west of Champaign.
Law enforcement agencies and rescue teams resumed their search Wednesday morning, focusing efforts near Jordan Slough, an area of heavy brush and dense cornfields. Authorities say Jordan was spotted around 6:15 p.m. Monday and had an active arrest warrant in Piatt County, prompting initial contact by police.
Extensive Ground and Air Search Underway
Piatt County Sheriff Mark Vogelzang confirmed that Jordan fled from officers during a traffic stop and disappeared into the tall cornfields surrounding the area. Despite several search attempts with drones, all-terrain vehicles, and helicopters, no further sightings were confirmed after Monday night.
“We are using all available resources,” said Vogelzang. “The terrain and vegetation make this a challenging effort.”
The Piatt County Sheriff’s Office is working in coordination with local fire departments and search and rescue units to comb through the rural landscape, with both air and ground teams deployed since early Tuesday.
Concerns Mount as Weather, Terrain Delay Progress
The high summer temperatures and rugged terrain have further complicated the search for Jordan, with heat indexes rising in Central Illinois. Emergency teams are also monitoring potential weather-related risks as they continue efforts over the coming days.
Jordan’s family and local residents have also been involved in aiding the search effort. Volunteers have been asked to remain cautious and follow instructions from authorities to avoid hindering professional operations.
As of Wednesday, no foul play is suspected, and Jordan is not believed to be a threat to the public.
Wanted on Warrant, Last Seen Fleeing Police
David Jordan had a warrant issued for failure to appear in court on traffic-related charges. Officials have not disclosed the specific reason for the traffic stop that led to his disappearance but say Jordan ran before officers could take him into custody.
Authorities have confirmed that Jordan was last seen wearing dark-colored clothing, but further details have not been provided.
Updates are expected to continue as crews search through thousands of acres of agricultural land. The sheriff’s office has asked anyone with information to call their tip line.
