CHICAGO — The National Weather Service is forecasting severe storms and sweltering heat for the Chicago area starting Tuesday and continuing through the weekend, raising concerns for public safety and outdoor activity plans.
Tuesday–Wednesday: Strong Storms and Dangerous Winds
Forecasters say scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop late Tuesday afternoon into the evening. Some of these storms may become severe, with damaging winds posing the greatest threat.
The most likely window for strong storms is between 4 and 10 p.m. north and west of Chicago. Additional storm clusters could redevelop overnight, bringing heavy downpours to parts of the city and suburbs.
A second round of severe weather is expected Wednesday, ahead of a cold front. The National Weather Service warns of damaging winds, large hail, and even brief tornadoes during this event.
“Strong to severe thunderstorms are possible, especially during the afternoon hours,” officials said in the Patch report. “Locally heavy rainfall is also expected.”
Weekend Forecast: Dangerous Heat and Humidity

-
Saturday’s high could hit 94°F
-

-
